Vekeri-Lake: Looking For Grebes

This year the Veri-Lake was filled up with water. But yellow flowers have covered its surface too. I became curious about how the birds would look like among these flowers. Previously I have caught a swan from the shore, ...:

... but I wanted to make closer photos. Thats why I've given a try today at dawn from a self-made raft. The great crested grebe gave me some chance, ...:

Vekeri-Lake: Grebe Dance

 The cold air has brought this morning some haze again, so I have another try with the grebes:

Sometimes the haze is so dense that the grebes are hard to see and most of the time they are a bit far:

I have seen previously how the great crested grebes are dancing, so when I see them dive both then pop up with water plants then I know what's coming:

Once one of them appears quite close:

It's frosty this morning. For this reason however some mist or haze is expected. I planned to photograph the great crested grebes at the Vekeri-Lake.

It's no more dark when I arrive at the lake and there's a lot of haze above the water. It's an ideal morning!

Fancsika Lake: Tryout of The Floating Hide

On our yesterday trip at the Fancsika Lake I saw a pair of Great Crested Grebe on a part of the lake where photography would be possible. I decided to try out my newly finished floating hide. I assumed that the birds would dislike the new object, but at least I would learn how it behaves on the water. So, I took it to the spot, assembled it and rowed to the right place. However I didn't see a bird. I could only hear the voice of the little grebe in the thick vegetation, but they didn't come closer. Then after about an hour the pair of the great crested grebe appeared in front of my hide. They were approaching but at about 20 meters they stopped and began to watch the hide. Then they continued their usual activities keeping the distance from the hide. So, I wasn't able to take very good shots of them but looking at the following picture one can feel something from the spirit of the spot:

I was hoping to see other birds as well but they didn't show themselves.
My hide behaves just as I expected however I have to work on the rowing and direction issues.

Lake Tisza: Canoeing trip

We planned a canoeing trip on the Lake Tisza, near Tiszafüred. Here the birds got used to humans going by boats and canoes so they let me get quite close to them:
