Mikepércs: Wren And Sparrow Hawk

I counted on the sparrow hawk again today, but I hoped by stealth that the flock of a long-tailed tits would visit the pool as well, for I was witness of their bath the other day.

The first visitor of today's cloudy morning is a jay landing on the side of the pool to have a few gulps of water.

Then a robin appears a few times in the bush nearby but doesn't land on the pool this time either.

Later I can hear the voice of a wren, which soon lands at the end of the pool:

Having had a look round it flies away.
Soon the sparrow hawk appears on the side of the pool, splashes into the water to have a bath.
Yet it's keeping an eye:

Then it leaves as suddenly as it has arrived.

Mikepércs: The Ice Has Been Broken

I started for the pool this morning in a thick fog. According to the recent weeks' experience I could only expect jays at the pool.
On my way I stopped for a dewy cobweb photography:

There's still thick fog when I get into the hide. And there's not much light. Soon I notice a small brown bird near the pool: it's a sparrow. Tree sparrows used to come regularly last year, but this is a house sparrow! I've never seen it near a bathing pool. After a while it gets onto the side of the pool, so I can photograph it:

Among the birds' voices I can discover the fieldfare's too. I used to hear it regularly, but this time they are closer. But look! One of them is perching on the bush nearby! There's no use taking photos of it because of the many twigs around it. I hope it would land on the pool. It's sitting in the bush for a while then it lands on one side of the pool:

Jay at the end of the pool, fieldfares on one side, and young blackbirds are arriving as well (which I don't pay much attention now)! And this is still not enough: I discover a redwing near the pool! (I haven't even seen this species yet.) Only it's not on the right place photographically. Never mind, after drinking a bit it lands on the branch placed for the jays before it flies away:

Then I can hear hawfinches, which are landing on the pool as well for a short time:

That's great! In these minutes more birds have come to the pool than in the last few months altogether!
A jay has come again to the water:

It seems this jay doesn't like the little red plant among the moss:

I'm afraid it has weeded it out, it looked so nice there :(
I'm still waiting for a long time hoping the fieldfares or the redwings would return...
Meanwhile the tits are coming regularly.
I can hear the voices of robins and wrens but they don't come close exept this wren, which is perching on a wild rose stem for a few moments. I can take a shot of it before I finish photography for today:

Well ... the fieldfares and the redwing have been a surprise for today. It's a long time I've had such a nice experience. I have to state that foggy mornings very often bring some pleasant surprise.

The first day of november came with overcast weather. I would have liked a bit more light but it's not a matter of desire. Birds were not keen on coming to the pool either. After a long wait a jay appeared:

It didn't stay long. But soon I could hear the soft chirping voice of wrens. And in a minute they appeared at the pool. There were three of them at least. They visited every corner and I could see them pop up on different parts of the pool and its neighbourhood. It seems that having made a pile of branches and twigs near the pool braught to result as the wrens occupied it for several minutes searching for insects as if they were playing hide-and-seek. Meanwhile I was peeping eagerly the places where they could appear and I could make some quick shots. It's not easy to take shots of them for they are very fast and almost continously moving creatures. These are the best images taken of them:

After about half an hour they got away and as later no other birds appeared I left the place too.

The frosty nights have gone these days, so the ice has disappeared at the pool too. This morning I examined the bird activity there. They haven't been too active today. First a few tits showed themselves, ...:

... then a wren appeared for a few moments, but unfortunately it landed in the shade:

Mikepércs: Bathing Birds At The Pool

The birds are using the bathing pool at last. Not many of them, but according to the traces birds sometimes come here to have a bath. This morning I wanted to be witness of this action. After I had got into the hide soon the blackbirds appeared and had a bath:

Then for my greatest pleasure a wren appeared, skipping all over the pool and nearby, had a short bath ...:

but stayed close to the hide for some time, I heared it fumbling on top of the hide and even singing some soft tunes. I hope it will be a regular guest.

Later a blue tit came for a bath as well:
